Although most trades men and women advocate for professionals performing specialty services to achieve best results,
many have staff performing important business tasks beyond their areas of expertise. Some have staff do bookkeeping or compose written agreements, often at greater cost and lower quality than if professionals were hired for the jobs.
When our businesses were young and quite cash conscious, we tried accomplishing as many business tasks as possible in-house. “Good enough” was acceptable for many business tasks as we were starting out. Transitions to professionals tend to be when “good enough” isn’t achievable or the tasks are unpleasant.
Many home improvement contractors understand the difficulties working with
do-it-yourself clients. Some of the contractor’s work becomes repairing the homeowner’s trials. Homeowners can typically achieve higher quality at lower cost by hiring professionals from the beginning rather than doing it themselves.
Since most owners are novists at home improvement projects, contractors spend a lot of time educating them before effective project communication commences. That doesn’t typically involve teaching homeowners how to do it themselves but rather how to ask intelligent questions.
Better Web Results is attempting to do both for home improvement businesses. Those businesses considering professionals for digital marketing receive concepts and specific best practices to discuss with potential vendors. Those wanting to perform their own services receive effective digital marketing skills and methods for their industry.
The next Better Web Results Workshop-Home Improvement Industries is January 27, 2010 in Milpitas, CA. It is a full morning workshop that walks through 1) the development of websites that convert visitors to customers, 2) driving targeted traffic to the website and 3) measuring data so that more resources can be directed toward tactics that work and away from tactics that don’t.
In a year where there appears to be pent up demand for home improvement, it will pay to be prepared for when homeowners begin buying services again. This may be a very good workshop to consider.
